HP has announced that it will team up with long-term collaborator Microsoft ?to expand HP's Converged Cloud portfolio with a joint service aimed at simplifying and enhancing a customer's private cloud.
The Joint Private Cloud initiative features optimised, integrated products based on both companies technology developments.?
The initiative comprises of three elements; HP will act as a single point of contact to customers delivering cloud infrastructure using Windows Server 2012 and System Center 2012 SP1.
It will also offer "new pre-integrated solutions and referenced architectures." As well as this the two companies have integrated their management systems to work across physical and virtual computing environments.
HP's pre-integrated private cloud is HP are based on templates derived from best practices, which HP describes as "cloud maps." The management integration allows HP Insight Management to work with Microsoft System Center software.
The management integration is tied in with the availability of service pack one of System Center 2012, which Microsoft has yet to announce availability.
HP will be supplying its hardware, comprising of HP ProLiant servers alongside storage enabled by HP's 3Par storage systems running Windows Server 2012 with offloaded data transfer technology (ODX). ODX is used to reduce CPU usage during data-copying operations.
According to the HP announcement the private cloud initiative allows live migrtion capabilities so that companies can "move virtual machines between sites up to 100 kilometers apart without disrupting end users."
HP Enterprise Group senior vice president Stephen DeWitt said as customers move to private clouds, they are looking for a simplified approach that minimises risks, increases their flexibility and allows for greater cost savings.
"Through this relationship with Microsoft, we're providing customers with a trusted, single-source experience to provide them an easy on-ramp to cloud," DeWitt said.
Microsoft Windows Server Marketing corporate vice president Michael Park said because Windows Server 2012 was built from the cloud up, it represents a transformational leap for businesses.
"The HP Converged Cloud solutions with Windows Server 2012 give customers a clear path to go beyond virtualisation and accelerate their journey to the cloud," Park said.
"With this private cloud agreement and more than 30 years of proven cooperation, HP and Microsoft are committed to helping customers drive success for their organisations as they experience the benefits of the cloud."
While the cloud products and service are available now through HP and its channel partners, offering requiring System Center 2012 SP1 will only become available "in early 2013".
