Rangers announce more renovations to Arlington ballpark | The ...

Construction crews were out in full force at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington this morning as they got to work on the latest round of upgrades to the stadium.

During the offseason, Rangers Ballpark will undergo $12 million worth of renovations ? most of which will focus on the area behind home plate. Rangers officials announced the specifics at a media tour this morning.

The private club behind home plate ? formerly known as the Cuervo Club ? will be revamped and renamed the Capital One Club. Rob Matwick, executive vice president of ballpark operations, said the renovations will improve the view from the club.

?Between the bar and the entrance, it really ate up the prime space in the middle,? Matwick said. With the improvements, ?it becomes a much more functional space year-round.?

The new design puts the dining area in the center of the club, with seating on either side. It will also make the club more spacious, with 9,100 square feet and 104 seats.

The Rangers will also add a third row of home plate seats ? the wide, cushioned seats that have additional leg room. The new row will be installed in front of the two existing rows that were added before the 2009 season.

Extending the seating area gave the Rangers an opportunity to renovate dugouts as well, Matwick said. When completed, the dugouts will be longer and about three feet wider than before.

Additional improvements include renovating and adding concession stands and adding a new Rangers merchandise store.

The changes announced today are the latest in a string of Rangers Ballpark upgrades. After the 2010 season, the Rangers spent millions upgrading the audio and video systems, including installing a 5,000-square-foot, high-definition video board. Last year, the team spent $12 million to build a two-story sports bar, indoor children?s play area and new center field club.

Construction began last week on this year?s improvements. When the project is finished in the spring, the Rangers will have spent over $35 million on improvements in the past three off-seasons.
